All set for Gnomedex 8.0

I Just now finished booking my flight and hotel for Gnomedex 8.0 in Seattle, WA., the annual tech conference put on by Chris and Ponzi Pirillo  Like it has been the last few years, it will be held at the Bell Harbor International Conference Center.  It's running from Thursday, August 21, 2008 through Saturday, August 23, 2008.

This year, I scored a room at the Seattle Marriott Waterfront RIGHT ACROSS THE STREET from the conference center, so I am STOKED.  No taxis or rental cars to worry about, no parking to hassle with.

BooYa!

GoDaddy stuff

Just now got off the phone with GoDaddy.com to put the final nail in the coffin of the ABORTED "LAFURNITURERESTORAL" web design project I was involved with back in 2007.

The $4.99 I was billed for "Business Registration" was refunded to my on-file credit card and that takes care of that.  God, what an unproductive nightmare that was.

Good Riddance.

Doc Searls on Walled Gardens and Cushy Jail Cells

Doc Searls has a new column over at Linux Journal on the importance of Walled Gardens and Cushy Jail Cells in reference to "vendor lock-in" and "consumer choice".

As usual, it is a brilliant piece that clearly illustrates the dangers of becoming locked into the confines of a single vendor, in this case that of a car manufacturer that offers no way out but theirs when you need a key or a radio replaced.

Well, I just purchased my ticket to Gnomdex 7.0, the premier tech industry conference for bloggers, podcasters, Vidcasters and all manner of Web 2.0/Social Media influencers.

I really hate this.  I need to get this guy and his business out of my life.  *sigh*.

Ho-Hum Saturday: Configuring Bert's iBoss

Routine Saturday, lazing around the house and then later in the early evening eating dinner at Asela's and then playing Scrabble in Palos Verdes.

A good part of the Scrabble time was consumed by configuring Bert's new Internet Security device called the iBoss.  Bert was trying to get it to allow connections to specific pages INSIDE a DOMAIN (such as YouTube) even though the DOMAIN itself is BLOCKED.

I attempted to explain to Bert that this would not work, but he continued on stubbornly, in typical fashion for like an additional 20 minutes, until he too became convinced there was nothing for it and left the configuration as is.

As a result of this, we ended up playing a single game of Scrabble.

Work Laptop dies due to Encryption+
I walk in to work today to find that my work laptop is kaput.  Upon power up, it had a nice BSOD full of hexadecimal numbers, multiple cod boots did nothing to alleviate the issue. 

Taking the rest of the day off
After putting in a ticket to have the laptop repaired, there was no point in staying at work so I used some PTO and too off the rest of the day, leaving work around 9:30 A.M.

NEW 100GB hard drive for my personal laptop
After leaving work I drove over to Fry's in MB and I bought a 100GB hard drive for my personal Fujitsu laptop, since it had been making a lot of grinding noises during Scrabble play.  After buying the HD, I saw David for a little while at my house.

Trip to Aragon
In the early afternoon, AJ and I went to see Aragon, but he was not there.  I need to get this put to bed.  This is ridiculous.

Walking, walking
1.41 mile walk at night.  Getting my Goal Meter of completing 28 miles in 4 weeks completed.

Earky this afternoon I drove over to Alberto's Fine Arts Furniture to take some further pictures.  I was there about 5 or 10 minutes, as when I arrived Alberto was not there.

I took as many pictures as I thought would help, including some from outside, of the front of his store.  Just as I was leaving, Alberto showed up and I explained to him what I was doing.  I will be adding these pictures to his website when I have a moment.

No progress on web project

Another freaking day goes by and I didn't touch the website I am working on.

I am utterly mired in a creative muck. Unable to put the web project to rest for some unknown reason.  I just need to type up the content and get through this and just put this thing to bed already. And yet I can't.  Or Won't.

I haven't the damnedest idea WHY.  I *hate* every idea I get and I can't commit to a design scheme.

This state of mind just bites.  Truly.  Grr.
